9-11 Hoaxster’s photos bear striking resemblance to scammer in Ecuador

Developing Story:

A few years ago expats in Ecuador would mention on Facebook groups that there was an extremely heavy set white female who would hit gringos up for money on the streets and deliver a heartfelt speech that she needed money to get to her embassy to get a new passport so she could get back home to South Africa. The reports of this lost soul became a game of sorts for some expats similar to “Where’s Waldo”. You could always count on sporadic sightings all over Ecuador and being reported on Facebook with pictures. No one ever seemed to get much information from her and there were reports of her becoming quite agitated with those who asked questions and or refused to give her money.

Last week Latinamericacurrentevents.com was contacted by an expat from Cuenca who had just viewed the T.V. show “ID Investigation” from the states. The episode was about a well known hoaxster from the 9-11 tragedy in New York, who had claimed to been a victim of the attack. She was convinced that the woman claiming to be from South Africa asking expats for handouts was the same woman from the 9-11 hoax, based on her photographs. You be the judge by the photos below.

Alicia Esteve Head was born in 1973, in Barcelona, Spain to a wealthy family. Her father and brother served prison terms as a result of a financial scandal. At the time of 9-11 attack on the U.S., she was attending school in Barcelona.

She first visited the U.S. in 2003, and began an internet group for 9/11 survivors. Ms. Head worked at obtaining increased recognition for survivors. She did not accept any money or was paid for the activities of the group. It is reported that she even contributed money for the group’s purpose.

Head as reported in Wikipedia gained an almost celebrity status after claiming to be a victim of the 9-11 attack and escaped from the 79th floor of the South Tower when it was hit by United Airlines Flight 175. She also claimed that her fiance was killed in the attack and then later stated that they were married. Her celebrity status had her meet with politicians and met with the governor of New York. (Her claims of a fiance or husband were not true)

In 2007, the New York Times attempted to verify some of her claims and that Harvard and Stanford had no record of her ever being a student. There were other parts of her stories that could not be verified and the Survivors’ Network voted to remove her as president and as a director.

This hoaxster refused all interview requests and left New York. In February of 2008, an anonymous email was sent to the World Trade Center Survivors Network, that Ms. Head had committed suicide. Then, according to an article in La Vanguardia it was reported that she had been fired from an insurance company in Spain. SOURCE WIKIPEDIA

100 POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE MOVING OR RETIRING IN ECUADOR – READ THE BOOK

Additional Information:
1. There has been no mention of the alleged scammer from South Africa in several months on a number of expat groups. However, in the last few days there have been separate posts stating she was seen in Guayaquil, Ecuador at a mall and another post that she had been arrested due to the diligence of an expat and was now detained in Quito, Ecuador.

2. Allegedly the scammer in Ecuador has said she is trying to get to the South African Embassy in Ecuador. There is no embassy in Ecuador but, an honorary consulate exists.

3. It makes sense that the alleged scammer would tell those she was hitting up for money in Ecuador that she was from South Africa in order to conceal her true identity. That might allow her to continue the ruse longer without expats from the Canada or the U.S. questioning her accent.

4. If the scammer is the 9-11 hoaxster her real name is Alicia Esteve Head.

5. There is no definitive proof at this time that the scammer in Ecuador is the same woman as the 9-11 hoaxster. However, their pictures remarkably resemble each other.
