850 kilograms of Bolivian cocaine found in Chile, packed as medical supplies

Police investigators in Chile discovered and seized 850 kilograms of cocaine bearing “made in Bolivia” labels, the largest cocaine shipment found in the country. According to Los Tiempos, the drugs made their way from Bolivia via an illegal border crossing and were discovered in the Mano del Desierto zone in Antofagasta. The shipment was disguised as medical supplies, such as herbal teas, and was packed into a truck. Four people were arrested during the seizure:  Thomas Plaza Gutiérrez (64), Abdon Challapa Mamani (37), Mauricio Mamani Navarrete (32), and Jonathan Rodriguez CAIPA (37). The cocaine was stored in 824 packages. 222 kilograms of marijuana were also seized, along with cell phones and nearly 6 million Chilean pesos. Read Article
