8,082 Fast Food Establishments in Ecuador, Businesses oppose proposed tax

elcomercio.com reported there are 8 082 fast food businessesin the country. According to the national survey of income and expenses of the National Institute of statistics and censuses (INEC), reveals data in the period 2011-2012, nationwide is spent USD 39.9 million a year in such foods and drinks. Even though Incomes legislatively service (SRI) announced yesterday, September 4, that the fixing of a junk food tax is only a proposal in the analysis, there is rejection among the owners of this type of business in the country. The last Saturday President Rafael Correa announced that there was the possibility of creating a harmful consumption tax, including the junk foodis, without specifying what would be. Yesterday the SRI said that this could be included within Special consumption taxes, he taxed luxuries and harmful products.
