7.1 Earthquake central Chile, minor injuries , thousands evacuated from coast

A 7.1 magnitude quake struck yesterday the south-central Chile, one of the strongest tremor since the devastating earthquake that rocked the country in 2010, which triggered the precautionary evacuation of thousands of families in some coastal areas but left no damage or serious injuries.

The move shook tall buildings in the Chilean capital, located about 200 kilometers north of the epicenter, and prompted authorities to evacuate 7,000 people on the coast after noticing some unusual movements in the Pacific Ocean.

However, the copper mines of the world’s leading producer of metal operated normally in the affected area. Read Article
