After 50 Years, Colombian Highway is Still in Construction

•By El Espectador’s report, the Avenida Longitudinal de Occidente (ALO) has been in construction for 50 years with only 1.88 kilometers constructed out of the planned 49 kilometers.
•A main challenge is the fact that construction requires 696 more pieces of land in order to be completed.
•The transnational highway will help to solve transit problems, and would be the first tolled highway in Colombia.
•The value of the ALO rose in 2010 to 1.06 trillion pesos since 1999. Read Article
