The death toll from the outbreak of dengue suffering Ecuador amounted to five, while those affected are now 4,683, said the Ministry of Public Health in a statement.

Further, warned that “in the coming weeks are extraordinary conditions favorable for transmission,” due to high rainfall in the country and coastal flooding.

Of the nearly 4,700 dengue cases detected this year, 70 were of severe dengue, formerly known as “bleeding”.

The current outbreak exceeds that of 2010 when 4,000 people affected and four deaths occurred, while last year only one death occurred.

Dengue causes high fevers, headache, vomiting and rashes on the skin and can be fatal in its hemorrhagic form. Read Article
