$42 Million Bridge Project in Recife, Brazil, Terminated

On April 4, 2013, NE10 reported that four important bridge projects that were supposed to divert traffic over a busy avenue in Recife, the Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, were terminated in favor of other things.  The projects drew criticism and protests from residents and urban critics alike, creating controversy at various public hearings regarding the bridges.  The intent of the bridges was to alleviate much of the traffic that must either flow through the Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, and also to connect various parts of the city without having to cross the busy avenue.  The government of the state of Pernambuco will refocus its efforts on other projects as a result.  Read Article
