Cuenca, Ecuador: Couple from U.S. and Canada found dead, still waiting autopsy report

On Jauary 13, 2018, a couple from the U.S. and Canada arrived in Cuenca for a twelve day vacation. They rented a short term unit in a building located at Avenidas Doce de Abril and Jose Peralta, according to neighbors.

On Wednesday January 17th, 2018, a tour guide arrived to pick the couple up and could not reach them on their cellphone. The tour driver contacted management in the building and they proceeded to their unit. After entering the apartment they discovered the tourists lifeless bodies in bed. There appeared to be no violence and the apartment was not in anyway disturbed.

The corpses were transported to the forensics lab. To date the results have not been released or the names of the victims. One hypothesis as to the cause of death is carbon monoxide poisoning. The male deceased was 56, and is a Cuban American. The female was 54 and from Canada according to authorities. Read Article
