Venezuela ships oil to Syria

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chávez is supplying fuel to Syria, a move that could undermine international sanctions against Damascus, thus propping up a government that has engaged in bloody clashes with civilian demonstrators.

A cargo of low-sulfur diesel aboard the Negra Hipólita tanker, a Venezuelan vessel operated by a subsidiary of state-run oil company Petróleos de Venezuela (Pdvsa), is expected to arrive at the Mediterranean port of Banias this week, according to shipping data and two traders, who requested not to be named.
