Venezuela, French tourist shot dead on Margarita Island

French tourist, Lebres Ives, age 53, was murdered in what appeared to be a robbery attempt at a hotel on Margarita Island, Venezuela. El Nuevo Herald did not name the hotel and the case was still being investigated. Official records state the homicide rate in Venezuela is 48 per 100,000 peopel. Margarita Island is one of the most popular destinations in Venezuela for domestic and foreign tourists. Approximately 150,000 foreign tourists visit there a year. Read Article

VICTIM WAS SCHEDULED TO RETURN TO FRANCE TODAY WITH WIFE.
VICTIM WAS ROBBED BY TWO INDIVIDUALS FOR HIS JEWELRY AND SHOT WHILE RESISTING.
