Seize cocaine in Bolivia, third largest producer of the drug

Chief of Bolivia’s anti-drug police force, Colonel Gonzalo Quezada, announced today that 543 kilos of cocaine were seized in 2 operations in the last 48 hours, per abc.com.py. The first operation took place in the Santa Cruz region and involved a plane that was carrying 363 kilos of cocaine to Brazil. Gunfire was exchanged, but the struggle ended in the arrest of the pilot, copilot and the man carrying the drugs. In the Chuquisaca region 2 trucks were raided, 3 people arrested and 180 kilos of cocaine were confiscated. So far in 2011 Bolivian police have seized over 10 tons of cocaine and arrested 1,600 people in relation to drug trafficking. Bolivia is the third largest producer of cocaine in the world, behind Colombia and Peru.
