Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Violence Increases in Tourist Areas of City

Terra reported on September 1, 2013 that tourist areas in the city of Rio de Janeiro have showed an increase in violence due to the theft. The Public Security Institute reported the areas of Santa Teresa and Lapa to show a recorded high index of robberies. However, these areas are not on the top of the list for effective security as more attention is directed towards areas of the Corcovado and the Sugar Loaf.
