Heart Disease Number one cause of death in Ecuador

Ischemic heart disease are in first place with a total share of 10.3% of the deaths recorded in 2012. On the other hand, cardiac arrest (also related to cardiovascular problems) correspond to 7.7% of the total deaths. According to data collected by the National Institute of Statistics and Census of Ecuador ( INEC ), in 2014 a total of 4,430 deaths were reported from ischemic heart disease, while heart failure, deaths reached 1 316. Arrhythmias heart totaled 168 deaths, while deaths from heart attacks in the same year were 106. Of all deaths from heart disease, totaling almost 12 000, the 51.68% of victims are male, while the remaining 48.32% are women, according to figures collected highlighted by the INEC .

In March 2016, the Pan American Health Organization ( PAHO ) conducted a study in Ecuador on populations at risk for cardiovascular disease. The survey collected data from 2,231 people between 18 and 69 years. The results were rampaging: A total of 30% of the adult population between 40 and 69 years are at risk for a disease associated with cardiac system malfunction. Read Article
