Ecuador: 40 political, social organizations apply for referendum on term limits for elected positions

abc.es reported, Forty political and social organizations of Ecuador have applied to the National Electoral Council (CNE) call for a referendum to treat of stop the indefinite presidential re-election, which would make it possible to Rafael Correa perpetuation in power.

«Commitment Ecuador» group request – led by Guillermo Lasso, movement I think, and César Montúfar, of concertation – came after the Constitutional Court (CC) fails in favour of the assemblymen of Alianza País (in power), which raised to rule on the possibility of modifying the Constitution with an amendment to the legislative branch, so all popularly elected authorities can be re-elected indefinitely.

The question

«Are you agree to change the Constitution and allow the indefinite re-election of the President of the Republic and other dignities of people’s choice?», is the question proposed by 40 organizations, which the CNE asked forms to collect 580.091 signatures (5% of the electoral roll) that the law requires for a consultation.

«The amendment gives the candidacy of President and mayors; power, vows», assures strap and repeat their supporters, that they think that the people will decide, but in 2017, in the elections.
