Ecuador: 1,667 cellphones reported stolen daily

Elcomercio.com reported that data provided by mobile phone operators, more than 50,000 people reported their phones stolen last month (1,667 phones daily). The number reported stolen is down as compared to January of 2013,when approximately 2,395 phone thefts were reported daily. Many phones are sold to individuals with no idea they are stolen.. Between 2013 and 2014, police in Quito recovered 20,000 phones. They were seized from businesses that did not have supporting documentation.
