Ecuador: 1,106 confirmed cases of Zika Virus, 73 of victims are pregnant

Eluniverso.com reported the Health Minister Margarita Guevara, said Thursday that the country currently has recorded 1,106 cases of the Zika virus, transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito disease. Of that total infected, 73 are pregnant women, representing 6.60%.

Guevara said that of those 73 cases, 10 babies have been born and are healthy. The incidence of Zika virus in pregnant women is a situation that worries organizations such as the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), since it is considered that this disease causes severe birth defects, including microcephaly.
