13 dead, thousands evacute homes due to landslides in Rio de Janeiro State

The discovery of five bodies has risen to thirteen the number of deaths caused by the landslide occurred Monday in the district Jamapa in Sapucaia City, located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro (southeast), confirmed on Tuesday Defense Civil. Heavy rains in recent weeks have hit Rio de Janeiro triggered landslides in two hills of this impoverished township. Of the total casualties, buried seven people have died, including one family who had sheltered in a temporary vehicle.Dozens of people were crying on Tuesday the victims of the tragedy as they took the difficult decision to leave their homes with few belongings they managed to save. “They tell us that all is Jamapa risk area and then we leave here, but do not know where,” a woman has expressed a local chain.
Some of the victims discussed the possibility of moving to Teresópolis, a city that last year was raging by the heavy rains that caused landslides and floods that hit the favelas. Read Article
