U.S. Marines assisting Guatemalan forces in joint mission patrolling west coast of Guatemala to fight drug traffickers

The deployment of the Marines are part of Operation Hammer, an initiative involving several nations, which began on January 15 to stop the transit of illegal drugs by the Central American coast. A contingent of 200 Marines U.S. this week started patrolling the west coast of Guatemala in an unprecedented operation to fight drug traffickers in Central America, said Wednesday a U.S. military spokesman.
