State of Paraná, Brazil, Reports Dengue Epidemic in 52 Municipalities

  • On April 1, 2013, G1 reported that health officials in the state of Paraná have declared health epidemics in 52 municipalities concerning dengue.

  • Since August of 2012, 17,175 cases have been reported, 16,086 of which were registered in 2013 alone.

  • Nine people have died as a result of the cases.  The Health Ministry continues to investigate four more deaths to determine if dengue was the primary cause.

  • The largest numbers of cases have been confirmed in Paranavaí (5,487), Peabiru (1,759), and Campo Mourão (905).
