Specialists in Chile recommending banning of certain foods in schools

Council authorities and Primary Education (CEIP) study how they will implement the ban on the sale and consumption of unhealthy foods in schools. Some consider it necessary to ban, for others the veto is not possible.

The former director of CEIP and current Secretary of Education, Oscar Gomez, was in favor of prohibiting the consumption of such foods into the school, just as banning cell phone use, or smoking in public buildings. For his part, Minister of CEIP, Hector Florit, does not consider that option viable. “I do not think we can go beyond a campaign of education and awareness to families.
