Quito Ecuador: One of most severe winter seasons in recent memory

This was stated by Mayor Mauricio Rodas , after announcing the number of emergencies that have been reported from October 2016 to January 2017: 172. Especially because of the heavy rains that fell in recent days, whose major affects were recorded in the south Of Quito .

In January 2017, there has been a rainfall of 220% more than January 2016. For this reason, about 80 floods have occurred, 53 mass movements, 26 structural collapses, 5 families evacuated, 13 fallen trees, among other events.

According to the Atlas of Natural Threats of the Metropolitan District of Quito, there are 169 neighborhoods in which they are in areas of high and medium susceptibility to floods. The most affected parishes are: Calderón, Pueblo Committee, El Condado; Ponceano, Iñaquito, Rumipamba, Jipijapa, Mariscal Sucre, La Concepción and Belisario Quevedo north of the city; La Libertad, San Juan and Historic Center in the center of Quito; And Solanda, San Bartolo, Chimbacalle, La Ferroviaria, La Mena, Turubamba and the Ecuadorian in the south of the city.

Rhodes noted that there are 1,870 municipal members, who are responsible for responding immediately when there is some risk. In addition, depressed steps are monitored all the time.
