Prison Guards Find 210 Cell Phones in Brazilian Prison

On February 22, 2013, Diário do Nordeste reported that a search done in one of the state penitentiaries in the Brazilian state of Ceará produced an interesting find:  police discovered a stash of drugs and no less than 210 cellular phones.  The search was conducted after the prisoners decided to start a hunger strike, as they are upset over unfulfilled demands from administrators.  With a lack of leadership among the inmates, it is difficult for the administrators to assess the inmates’ demands.  The state penitentiary is located in Itaitinga, some 35 kilometers south of Fortaleza, the capital.  Read Article
