Michoacán, Mexico: Gunmen release two narco-traffickers, kill a police officer

An armed group broke into the regional office of the Attorney General in Apatzingán, Michoacán, Mexico on June 22, 2012. There, they released two suspected narco-traffickers and killed one police officer in the process. The narco-traffickers were identified as Julio Acevedo and Joel Contreras Cardenas Cardenas, El Nuevo Diario reports. The police officer was Javier Hernández Ramírez. According to reports, the officer had submitted to orders of opening the prison cells containing the suspects. After doing so, he was shot in the head.
