Mexico: 25,000 Acres of Citrus Lost Due to Drought

Over 25,000 acres of citrus in the state of Veracruz are considered a total loss due to the devastating drought affecting Mexico, Más Producción Agricultural News reports. Consumers are beginning to feel the effects of the crop loss through product scarcity and price increases. There are a total of 200,000 acres of citrus crops in the region, primarily producing oranges, tangerines and limes. According to the district representative for the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), some areas in the region have begun to get small amounts of much-needed rain, but in many parts of the state farmers are in danger of losing their entire crops.
