Mexican Drug Traffickers Recruit Thousands of Young Adults, PRI Claims

According to a legislative report from the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in Mexico, at least 23,000 young adults and teenagers have been recruited to join drug trafficking gangs, ANSA reports. The report stated that the problem of violence in Mexico stems from social, political, economic and cultural issues. In addition to the 23,000 young adults and teenagers recruited by drug gangs, drug-related violence has left 10,000 children orphaned and displaced over 120,000 people. The report indicated that the actions, programs and overall efficiency of the government-sponsored Mexican Institute for Juveniles need to be evaluated.
