Mato Grosso: Chief Police and Wife Detained for Corruption in Drug Trafficking Scheme

Globo reported on June 29, 2013 that the chief of the Homicide and Protection of Persons and his wife, a Civil Police researcher, were both arrested in Mato Grosso on accusations of protecting drug traffickers. According to police, the couple offered to drug traffickers that with their authoritative power, drug traffickers would not be investigated, arrested, or prosecuted. The lawyer for the couple argues charges are insufficient and unsuitable. The couple faces two to eight years of imprisonment as well as a fine. Read Article
