La Libertad, Peru: Police Seek Suspect Accused of Forcing Minor into Prostitution

On May 31, 2013 La Republica reported that police in La Libertad are looking for a suspect accused of forcing a minor into prostitution. Ubelser Tarrillo Espinoza could face imprisonment after being accused of forcing a teenager, with whom he had a romantic relationship, to work as a prostitute in order to supplement the money he earned as a taxi driver.

When the victim initially refused his demand, the suspect allegedly beat the victim and threatened to kill her and her family. In addition to confiscating the money the victim later earned as a prostitute, around 300 soles, the suspect also imprisoned the victim and forbade her any contact with her family. In her statement to the police, the victim also claimed that Tarrillo Espinoza had forced her to have an abortion after he impregnated her. Read Article
