El Salvador: Two kilos of cocaine found in JetBlue plane with U.S. crew

The Narcotics Division of the National Civil Police in El Salvador and the Attorney General’s Office have reported the discovery of two kilos of cocaine in a JetBlue plane in the Comalapa airport on June 6, 2012. The captain, first officer and two crew members were all U.S. citizens. The aircraft was an Airbus A320 and had arrived in El Salvador from Miami on June 5, where it was supposed to remain for a 15-day checkup. The plane had also stopped in Colombia, the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, and the Dominican Republic. Officials have not yet arrested any suspects in the case. The value of the drugs is estimated to be $50,000. JetBlue does not have a flight route to El Salvador, but does have a contract with a maintenance company in the country. The fuselage will be removed to determine whether any additional drugs are on board the plane, or whether the aircraft has been used in other drug trafficking operations. Read Article
