Ecuador’s government, military victim of cyber espionage campaign

Posted on August 21, 2014 • Filed under: Crime, Ecuador, Internet reported Ecuador is one of the victims of a cyber espionage campaign, seeking military, diplomatic and governmental information, which has been in place since 2010.
It has also affected 778 people in Colombia and Venezuela, warned the Russian computer security firm Kaspersky Lab. “We can not speculate on the origins, but we know, that whoever is behind this, speaks Spanish and comes from Latin America. Hundreds of gigabytes of classified information have been stolen,” according to the director of the security team for Latin America at Kaspersky Lab, Dmitry Bestuzhev.


The manager was at the closing of the Fourth Summit of Security Analysts whose motto was ‘The hyperconnectivity and its implications for privacy and security’, organized by the company in Cartagena.

Of the 778 persons or institutions, that have targeted according Bestuzhev, 46 percent are in Venezuela, 36 percent in Ecuador and 11 in Colombia. Read Article
