Ecuador: President rejects claims by local media regarding the country’s economic performance

telesurtv.net reported the findings from the International Monetary Fund’s Article IV assessment contradicts local Ecuadoran media reports.

Ecuadoran President Rafael Correa issued a statement in his weekly public address clarifying erroneous claims that had been made by local media earlier this week, stating that the International Monetary Fund had declared that Ecuador was nearing dangerous levels of public deficit.

Correa indicated that the claims regarding Ecuador’s fiscal deficit, which had been originally acquired from the news agency AFP, was inaccurately reported.

The press release from the IMF Article IV evaluations revealed that “Ecuador’s gross public debt stood at 24.4 percent of GDP at the end of 2013, which is low by regional standards.” Read Article
