Ecuador: Coast guard detains Colombians transporting fuel illegally in boats

While performing a search flight Aeromarítima on Monday April 9, the Naval Aircraft AN-236 detected two boats carrying drums of fuel, about 15 miles north of Green River, Esmeraldas.

The Coast Guard boat “River Conambo” which was on a routine patrol near this area, conducted the inspection of the two boats. According to naval staff report, the first was heading north, with two crew members of Colombian nationality, with about 1,200 gallons of gasoline.

The second crew also moved four Colombians, in whose possession were 55 gallons of fuel and cash. They were traveling southbound on the Ecuadorian coast.

The vessels were transferred to the Port Authority of Esmeraldas, the detainees and evidence became orders of the competent authorities for the appropriate action according to law. Read Article
