Ecuador: 23,914 traffic accidents between 2009-2011, drivers and pedestrians using cellphones primary cause

Between 2009 and 2011 there were around 23 914 traffic accidents in the country. Because of that, between 2008 and 2011 there were 51 942 victims annually, according to data Covial. The main reason why accidents occur is the recklessness of the driver cell phone use while driving and not the hands-free device. This adding to sending SMS while driving or walking through the streets constitute a major cause of accidents, according to a report of the National Police.
