Drug trafficker with ties to assassin gang taken into custody in Colombia

Félix Alberto Isaza Sánchez, alias Beto, was arrested by Colombian Police in Rionegro. Beto is accused of trafficking drugs and is suspected to be the the second in command of the Oficina de Envigado, a group of assassins created in the 1980s by the narcotrafficker Pablo Escobar, who headed the Medellín drug cartel. This gang is also known to conduct kidnappings and use extortion. Beto had previously evaded capture on several occasions, Caracol reports. He had managed to flee an exclusive hotel on the island of San Andrés at the moment the police had entered to arrest him. Beto’s appearance is marked by a missing leg, which was amputated after being shot in a skirmish with an enemy gang concerning control of drug routes in the Medellín area. Read Article
