Cost of Living in São Paulo, Brazil, Rises 1.77% in Past Two Months

On February 8, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the cost of living in the city of São Paulo faced its steepest rise in ten years. Between December 2012 and January 2013, the cost-of-living index (ICV) rose some 1.77%. Among the big gainers include various foods including potatoes, whose prices rose around 21%. An unexpected rise in the cost of cigarettes and tobacco accessories also was responsible for some of the increase.
