Bus Crash Quito to Guayaquil route, one dead and 30 injuries

Passengers could not call emergency services – no cell service in area

A bus from the Dorado cooperative that covered the Guayaquil-Quito route crashed in the Pilahuín parish, on the Guaranda-Ambato road, before 04:00 on Tuesday, were moments of desperation experienced by the occupants of the car when it was overturned , Said José Yungán, one of the passengers.

Major Javier Viteri, of the Traffic Accidents Unit, confirmed that there were at least 30 injured and one deceased. He traveled with his wife and five other members of his family and reported that they left the bus with distress while many people complained of pain from the injuries and blows they suffered. “There was no cellular signal to give notice, everything was dark and fortunately we stopped some drivers from other vehicles to give us help; So the seven members of the family arrived at the hospital (Ambato) to take care of the wounds, “he said.

Ambato hospital manager Carlos López said that after assessing the wounded at the scene of the accident, 30 patients were identified as green, meaning they had no complications and therefore did not need to be hospitalized.

While a woman of about 20 years was taken to the hospital Ambato with a quite intense traumatism in one of the arms. López said that two wounded were instead taken to the hospital of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS).
