Brazilian Federal Police Concludes Investigation, Links 23 People to Corruption, Trafficking

On December 9, 2012, Globo reported that Brazil’s Polícia Federal concluded Operation Porto Seguro, indicting 23 people linked to various crimes surrounding the current federal government. Among those named were Rosemary de Noronha, chief of staff under both ex-President Lula and current President Dilma Rousseff, and Paulo Rodrigues Vieira, former director of the National Water Agency. The investigation found evidence linking the group to falsification of technical documents in federal hearings, in order to benefit their respective departments. The investigation lasted roughly two weeks, and now the case goes to prosecutors to determine which direction the case will go. Read Article
