Brazil: Use of Scanners Along the Border to Combat Organized Crime

On June 3, 2013, Terra reported that President Dilma announced the use of mobile scanners to help combat organized crime along border areas. The modernized scanners will be able to detect drugs and weapons inside trucks, cars, as well as drugs hidden in tires. The federal government will spend R$30 million to border states to help install the cameras in 60 counties. Dilma stated such action of securing the border would help increase security as the Confederation Cup and the visit of Pope Francisco quickly approach. Read Article
