Brazil: Police in Ceará Bust Couple Transporting Drugs

On February 4, 2013, O Povo reported that Federal Highway Police along BR-116 made a drug bust last Saturday when it seized 22 kilograms of marijuana from a couple traveling by interstate bus between the towns of Jijoca and Jericoacoara, in the northeastern state of Ceará.  Police caught them in Jaguaribe, about 300 kilometers from the state capital of Fortaleza.  According to the couple, the drug was to be distributed during Jijoca’s annual Carnaval celebration, and that they would receive R$1,000 for its safe passage.  Read Article
