Bogota Colombia: Whooping cough deaths double in 2012 compared to 2011

Whooping cough cases according to laud.udistrital.edu.co resurfaced in Bogotá with already more than double compared to 2011, this year has been 23 fatalities and 5 years of age. Pertussis is spread by the respiratory route and is caused by a bacterium called ‘Bordetella pertussis’, its incubation period is 6-20 days and may last an average of seven weeks. The warning signs begin with a catarrhal phase and characteristic symptom is persistent cough or wheezing noisy breathing difficult.
