Ambato, Ecuador: Police Arrest 3 Colombian Suspects in Bank Assault

ElComercio.com reports that police have taken into custody three of the four suspects in an assault of a businessman who withdrew $40,000 in cash from a bank in Ambato. The assault occurred today, July 6th around 4:30 p.m. close to a mall in the south of Ambato. Tungurahua police chief says that police officials offered protection during the time of withdrawal, but the businessman said that he had private security. Officials say the assailants robbed the man at gunpoint. Special operations police who apprehended the three men say they are Colombian and have refugee cards. Police recovered $24,000, two motorcycles, and a gun in the operation. They suspect six people are involved in the crime. Also, officials say one policeman was hurt.
