Chile: Couple detained for trafficking young Ecuadorian boy

ilovechile.cl reported the National Institute of Human Rights presented this Tuesday a complaint for the crime of traffic in human beings against an underage Ecuadorian national, who was enslaved by the defendants.

This complaint adds to another lawsuit on behalf of the child, filled on August 4 by the National Youth Service (Sename). On Thursday of this week an early hearing will be held and the boy will be testifying for the first time.

The young man was brought to Chile in 2012 at the age of 13 without any regular papers, although the teenager traveled from his home with parental permission, they weren’t aware of the conditions in which their son found himself.

Deceiving the victim’s parents, who are both deaf, the accused promised the kid a job as street hawker, for which he was supposed to get paid and the money send to his parents back in Ecuador. But quickly it became clear that this was not the plan they were pursuing. Read Article
