On February 2, 2013, Alagoas 24 Hours Reported that Federal Police have managed to arrest and disband members of two prominent gangs involved in the trafficking of women between Brazil and Spain.  These actions have led to the rescue of no less than 40 women over a seven-month period.  The statistics also come as part of an annual report on the Dial 1-8-0 (Ligue 180) Campaign, aimed at reporting human trafficking and sexual abuse cases.  In 2012, the Campaign was responsible for reporting at least 80 cases, distributed between a few European countries as well as El Salvador.  Eleonora Menicucci, head of the federal Women’s Rights Department, praised the statistics, but also appealed to Brazilians to continue reporting such cases.  Read Article
