Nuevo Laredo, Mexico: Navy Captures Los Zetas Leader, Z-40

From El Mundo on July 16, 2013- On Monday, Mexico’s navy captured the leader of the Zetas drug cartel, Miguel Angel Trevino Morales (Z-40), in the U.S.-Mexico border city of Nuevo Laredo. Trevino was captured alongside three other Zetas members, $2 million, rifles, and 500 bullets. Trevino was responsible for some of the worst atrocities in Mexico’s recent conflict with the drug cartels, like the death of 265 Central American migrants at a ranch in Tamaulipas. The United States has requested extradition, since Trevino began his criminal career in Dallas, Texas 13 years ago. Despite the arrest of a top leader, it is likely that this only means more violence in Zetas controlled areas in the short term as factions vie for control. Read Article
