Guayaquil, Ecuador: Police Break Up Gang Trafficking Victims from India to US

On May 15, 2013 La Hora reported that Ecuadorian police have broken up a gang of Indians and Ecuadorians allegedly involved in a human trafficking network from India to the United States, with a connection in the port city of Guayaquil. As part of the so-called “Operation Hindu”, special units of the police and the prosecution located members of the crime network who were involved in trafficking immigrants through the Guayaquil airport. According to the police, the gang was led by an Ecuadorian citizen of Indian origin, Navtej “Lucky” Kumar. During the operation, agents seized more than 94,000 dollars, rupees, a vehicle, laptops, mobile phones and six Andean immigration card stubs.
