Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil: Adolescent Involvement in Drug Trafficking Increases 192%

zerohora.clicrbs.com.br reported on June 2, 2013 that in Rio Grande do Sul, adolescent involvement in drug trafficking has significantly increased by 192% between March 2008 and March 2013; from 51 to 149 teenagers. The typical age is between 15 and 16-years old. According to experts, the increase is related to the drug market thriving in poor communities. Traffickers target adolescents to not only sell drugs but to commit murders of other traffickers in rival groups. As a dangerous occupation, drug trafficking may become the leading cause for adolescents to be hospitalized. Today, it is second in line to that of theft. Adolescents become involved in dug trafficking due to social segregation and bullying. Read Article
