Brazil: Federal Highway Police Seize $2 Million in U.S. Bills

On April 16, 2013, the Brazilian Federal Highway Police reported that police in Mato Grosso arrested three men in Várzea Grande, after discovering that one of their trucks was filled with nearly two million dollars in American currency. Police stopped two of the men on the entrance to Federal Highway BR-070 in Nossa Senhora do Livramento and found close to ten thousand dollars in hard currency. After letting the men go, police found the two later meeting with a third man in Várzea Grande. Police approached a second time and found nearly two million dollars in the third man’s truck, denoted in $100 bills.
