The kidnappers ordered a ransom of $60,000 from the victim’s family. The extortion phone call was from someone with a Chinese accent.
The Anti-Kidnapping and Extortion Unit rescued the victim on June 7, 2013, south of Quito. The alleged kidnappers were apprehended (2 Ecuadorians, 1 Chinese)
