Ecuador: President Correa Warns Brad Pitt not to participate in making of pro-Chevron movie

telesurtv.net reported The South American president reiterated his call for the actor to visit the country and hear from the victims of the ecological disaster. Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa once again issued an invite renowned actor and producer Brad Pitt to visit the South American country. Correa’s repeat invitation came after reports that Pitt’s production company bought the rights to a book that aims to sow doubt about Ecuador’s efforts to have an oil firm pay for damage left by its operations in the Amazon. “I am certain that when he knows the truth he is going to object to participating in that farce, where Chevron is the victim and the (real) victims are the victimizers,” Correa said at a Wednesday meeting with press, where the leader said the book “distorted the truth,” and reiterated his plea to the actor to not develop a movie from the screenplay.

Do you know what Viveza Criolla, Palanca, and Sapoism is in Ecuador? If Not Read This Book

Correa initially issued the invite to the U.S. actor on his weekly television May 2, challenging Pitt to witness the contamination left by the oil giant in the Ecuadorean rainforest. News outlets reported in April that Pitt had purchased the movie rights to Paul Barrett’s 2014 book “The Law of the Jungle.” The book presents Ecuador’s case for justice in a highly unfavorable light. It focuses on a character assassination of U.S. lawyer Steven Donziger, who has relentlessly pursued justice in the case of Chevron’s toxic legacy in the Amazon. “We invite (Brad Pitt) to dip his hand (in the contaminated soil). We’ll see if he continues with this movie project, which would be the biggest act of dishonesty,” said President Correa. Read Article
