A New Spanish migration to Latin America? (Opinion)

Should the Latin American countries prepare for a new Spanish migration?

According to many indications, including a recent article in the “Financial Times”, the answer is yes. The motivation is simple, regardless of their problems Latin America including Mexico to spite the Brazilian-looks today as land of opportunity for an important sector of the Spanish youth, currently lacking employment, perspectives and without migration and hope.

The diary records that the National Statistics Institute of Spain estimated that by 2020, the new Spanish emigration will be “more than half a million people a year.” And these are those with luck, to the growing fears of what is defined as “a lost generation” that includes many well-educated youth of the country.

But that generation also includes many who not so long ago during the boom times left school to engage in those explosive moments construction industry and are now without work and without enough education to compete, at least in Spain.

Many of them arrive in Mexico. A few thousand or tens of thousands. Despite the problems of violence, there are opportunities for people committed to work and especially if, as may occur, have the necessary social networks: cousin, childhood friend, the guy to repeat, in another context and perhaps in other conditions, the old story of the migrant who slept under the counter of the grocery store or bakery before settling on their own.
