Wikileaks Reveal Peruvians Offered Help to Victims of Hurricane Katrina

According to ElComercio.pe Peruvian president Alan Garcia immediately offered help to the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Five cables verify that the Peruvian government immediately contacted the ambassador of Peru to the United States with an offer of 80-100 doctors to treat Peruvians and non-Peruvians affected in Louisiana and Texas. All the doctors were from the Ministry of Health. Another cable says that after the ambassador informed the government of Peru about assistance needed, medical packages were made. Furthermore, President Garcia personally talked to the Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld. U.S. airlines that fly to Lima were ready to deliver necessary material to the areas affected free of cost.
